Special Healing Properties of Aloe Vera: The healing properties of aloe vera (latin botanical name: aloe barbadensis) have been recorded for over a thousand years, over which time this plant had gathered a number of names such as "the wand of heaven", "heaven’s blessing", "the silent healer", "plant of immortality" and "lily of the desert" in many cultures. Legends surrounding the use of aloe in ancient Egypt suggest that it was an important part of the beauty regimen of Nefertiti and Cleopatra. Today, numerous scientific studies have proven the extraordinary regenerative powers of aloe. These studies document that aloe contains polysaccharides (complex sugar molecules) like glucomannan and acemannan. These polysaccharides stimulate our fibroblasts (cells that repair damaged tissues) and T-lymphocytes (cells that neutralizes enzymes produced by damaged tissues), resulting in skin cells' faster growth and replication. Plant hormones in aloe, called gibberellins, also accelerate healing by stimulating cell replication.
